Language Literacy and Numeracy Program
What is the Language Literacy and Numeracy program?
This program is funded by DEST and provides free training for people who need help with reading, writing, numeracy and/or language skills to improve their job opportunities.
Available training streams.
There are three training streams that are available for the Language Literacy and Numeracy Program:
  • Initial and Basic English Language using ESL Framework as the curriculum informing training delivery
  • Advanced English Language using Certificate in General Education for Adults
  • Literacy and Numeracy using Certificate in General Education for Adults
Who is eligible for this program?
For all three streams of training, job seekers must be of working age (15 to 64 years old) and must be registered with Centrelink as unemployed and looking for work.
What does this program offer?
  • A relaxed pre-assessment interview to determine learning needs.
  • A supportive mature learning environment.
  • Small class sizes.
  • Computer assisted learning and some basic computer training
  • An opportunity to access a tailor-made reading, writing, maths, communication and develop basic computer skills.
  • Improved confidence, essential for everyday life and access to employment.
How do job seekers access this program?
  • Client access this program through Centrelink and Job Network Provider referrals
  • Anyone eligible for this program and keen to improve their skills can make an appointment for an assessment for specific learning needs
  • Assessments are informal interviews, not tests
