BIG DAY OUT
|
Own Experience |
My first Big Day Out experience was four years ago in 2000. I was 14 years old and thought it was the coolest thing, that I was going to the Big Day Out. I remember waking up that morning feeling very nervous, anchoress, but over the moon that I was going. When it came closer to leaving, I started to get excited, but still couldn't believe I was going. We had to wait in line for about 30 to 45 minutes to get in, that was from the time we arrived till when we passed through the second entrance. Upon passing the second entrance, there are two lines, one for people who have a bag and the other for people without a bag.
Also upon arriving, anyone who is over 18 years of age needs to provide identification to collect a wrist band that allows them to access the bar and alcoholic areas. I remember been so upset because everyone I went with was allowed to drink and I wasn't. I had to wait fours years before I could join them.
I remember seeing Basement Jaxx, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Grinspoon, 28 Days and the list goes on. The atmosphere is amazing, the people were nice and everyone was there to have fun. It may be a "hot and sweaty, push and shove" culture, but it's what the people like, other wise nobody would go. I blocked out everything that had happened that week and put all my energy into having fun.
I have been going for the past four years and this year was awesome, because I was allowed to collect a wrist band and go into the alcoholic areas, I was so happy. In my four years of going I would have to say that Basement Jaxx are one of the best performers. They know how to keep the crowd going and now how to pack a tent full of people. The boiler room gets that packed when they play, that the crowed is out side the tent just listening to the awesome beats of Basement Jaxx. The atmosphere in the boiler room is amazing, it is hot and sweaty to the point that you can see the sweat coming out of peoples pores and the steam coming off their bodies. When you exit the boiler room it feels like you've just come out of the washing machine, that's how wet your clothes can get.
Also the Prodigy, Fear Factory, Silverchair, Jimmy Eat World and Metallic are some of my favourite performances. They all know how to keep the crowd rocking and they all produce great music.
Besides watching the bands and drinking, my favourite thing is the mad ball. The mad ball is a ball shaped cage, in which motorcyclists ride around and do tricks. It looks very dangerous and it's amazing the precision they have. There can be multiple rides in there at the one time.
Overall the hype of going to such an event is whoa! Everybody either likes the punk bands or the heavier bands. Everyone is there for the same reasons and that is to see their favourite bands and to have fun, ( lots of it). It's worth the $98 you pay and the long queues you wait in. It's also a good place to meet new people and make new friends. All I can say is, it was a great Big Day Out!!!!
