2001
Attendance dropped from last year, making it only 215,000 in total. This Big Day Out is one people won't forget. In Sydney, a 15 year old girl named Jessica died as she was crushed in the Limp Bizkit mosh pit. This led to the bands decision to return home in the U.S.A and to cancelled all other Big Day Out shows. They blamed the organisers for this tragedy.
2002
This year the safety measures improved after last years tragedy. This time they had a more powerful crowd safety team, more barriers and a age restriction of 15 years and over. If you are under 15 years of age, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. People also received a Big Day Out pack, which contained sunscreen and refillable water bottle upon entry. The attendance was 215,000 and Garbage headlined.
2003
Bands that played where the Foo Fighters, Millencolin, Deftons, Jimmy Eat World, Xzibit, Machine Gun Fellatio and Frenzal Rhomb. After last years safety improvements the mosh pit is monitored by more crowd controllers and now has the 'D' barricade.

2004
This years Big Day Out was such a success that Sydney sold out and by demand got a second show. 120 people where treated by St. John's staff. There where queues for everything, especially the toilets, but that's to be expected with 45,000 to 50,000 attending. Most people where drinking alcohol or had taking other substances, but overall it was a great day for all.
